The Making of the Contemporary World
In the year 1500, nearly everyone in Western Europe believed in God. Today, while many still believe in God, it is no longer a given. Our world has changed drastically in the last 500 years. No matter what you believe today, you are conscious of other choices. Even a lifelong Christian lives with pressures a premodern Christian did not, for we are conscious of other beliefs and paths we have not chosen. The simple question we want to ask is, how did we get to here?
This was created as part of the training for new staff with CSFPA. It is my amateur attempt at putting together what I’ve learned from writers such as Alasdair MacIntyre and Charles Taylor, as well as things that have been bouncing around in my head as far back as philosophy classes as an undergrad at Penn State.

“How Game of Thrones Broke My Soul and Tolkien Put it Back Together”
I was honored to be invited by my friend Grace Kim to contribute a chapter to this fantastic book. Throughout the editing process I constantly questioned whether I had anything to say that was worth being included, but Grace and Jann kept on encouraging me. When I received the book and saw my chapter next to the work of other pastors and theologians, I was humbled. My prayer is that readers of this book are challenged and encouraged to continue building churches and ministries that reflect the mosaic of God’s creation.
